Sunday -

OK - Apologies to all of the parents and guardians who have been hanging out to see how your little angels are doing on the ski trip but this is the first time we have been able to get reliable internet to let you know what is going on.  We have arrived here at Mansfield and Alzburg resort safe and sound.  The trip took us a little less time that we had anticipated so when we arrived we had a an hour or so to kill before our rooms were ready.

In this time we were able to get all of our snow gear including boards, boots and Wrist guards.

All of the students seemed excited and after getting our gear we went into town to so they could collect some supplies.  We will be having a nice buffet dinner tonight ready for our first day of snowbarding and skiing tomorrow.

Everyone is excited, happy and safe.  Take care parents / guardians and enjoy the time that your students are away from you.  Until tomorrow when we will have some nice pictures and action shots, we are signing off from Alzburg.

Monday

Hello!...Well...where to start? Our day started early. Very, very early and I am sure that a few of the students still thought it was night time rather than early morning. A great cooked breakfast ensured they had plenty of energy to burn on the slopes. We jumped on the bus and before we knew it Andrew had us on the mountain, with the added warning to "not look down". And a few did and all of a sudden the nerves kicked in. But luckily Andrew knows this territory. Grabbing our gear we made it to the top of the mountain and straight into our first lesson. And snowboarding really does not look as easy as some people make it look! Quite a few of our students found out the hard way how cold the snow is! But the perseverance paid off and after lunch the students had the opportunity to practice what they learnt. By the end of the day they were bragging about the tricks they could do! Day two will see a repeat of today's routine with a few of the students moving from their groups. And Julian is a machine on his skis! Tyla has had her snowboard taken . Josh , Nathan and Kyle learnt a valuable lesson about leaving their gear unattended...and we now have a very clean bus. Mrs Danbury can't text on the school phone because it is a dinosaur. Dinner was roast lamb and beef with all the trimmings and apple  crumble for dessert.

Tuesday

Back up to the mountain and our morning was much smoother. The students are getting used to putting on so much gear and once they are geared up, we have no clue who is who. I forgot to mention yesterday that is has been snowing...I know right? Fancy being on ski trip and it's snowing. But I mean...it has really been SNOWING. And to see the excitement on the students faces really makes me smile. The first time I saw it, especially falling from the sky, had me mesmerised. There are heaps of photos on the kids' phones, so please don't let them tell you they have nothing to show you! The confidence is growing and everyone is keen to get out after lunch to do their thing. Everyone is well, albeit a bit sore. Some have told me they are thankful they did the exercises before hitting the slopes.

P.S Tyler's board is found!

Gotta go, we're eager to carve it up!

Wednesday

Where to start? If the last two days were big, today can only be described as epic. And why? Because the majority of the students  have mastered the art of snowboarding, well, standing on the board and moving in different directions and stopping on their toes and heels. We had two lessons, back to back and they are well and truly building their skills and it is great to see the confidence growing. We have some legends in the making! Jaidyn hasn't been able to wipe the smile off his face and doesn't want to come home. Lora bragged she could come down the mountain with out "staking it", Amber made it "down the hill twice, only falling once". So big improvements for all of them. Jhat, Xandra and Rigel, Tyler and Sarah taught our instructor to 'whip and nae nae'. Pity he's not coming to the disco tonight to put his moves into action. We expect to see Thomas busting some moves tonight!

Injury update: Mr Kerr has a black eye and twisted knee. Mr McMahon needs a massage and Andrew was attacked by the bus. Mrs Karpinskaia's backside is ..."tender".

Thursday

What another glorious day at the summit of Mt Buller. Gee it is satisfying to see all of the students starting to really control the mountain. The blue runs "Intermediate to Advanced" are certainly getting a workout with huge smiles on display. We saw our first glimpse of sunshine on the snow today which was also cleared the fog to expose some truly stunning views across the range. Today was our last lesson with the students ready for a great day of free snowboarding tomorrow. Eejay and Julian set speed PBs today with Julian clocking upwards of 90kms/hr. Mum, he is fine . When Julian tucks his poles under the arms we just simply say "See you at the bottom."  A very proud teacher moment this afternoon while venturing down the infamous Little Buller Spur Mr McMahon and Mr Kerr came around the first blind corner to find Carla, Jacob, Brad, Thomas, Jaiden attending to an injured student from another School. While we stopped to assist, another quite experienced board rider flew around the corner unable to stop and broke his wrist. Carla helped to unclip his board while the ski patrol arrived to provide medical attention. Be proud parents because we certainly were.
